Guild Wars 2

Mon Aug 27, 2012 5:39 pm

Ok so I've bought Guild Wars 2.

Who wants to play? I'm on the Underworld European Server.

Places to purchase Guild Wars 2:

Instant Digital Download (£49.99)
Amazon.co.uk (£34.97)

I went with the digital one because I'm impatient.

I played it for about an hour this evening and it is really interesting. I can't wait to play it tomorrow.

Lot of game mechanics that I like, for example there isn't any quest log. I've never played an MMO without one of these. Instead of a quest log you just walk in to an area and objectives you can do in that area appear on your screen and you can choose to do them or move to another area at which point your objectives change. It's really interesting and I like that freedom.

I also like the world events. I showed up at some area and a bunch of players were fighting some animals as part of a event and I just joined in and got stuff for being involved without needing to accept any quests or hand anything in. Really nice.

Graphically the game is beautiful and runs brilliant on my system. I think the user interface could have a scaling option though on my 30" display the user interface looks a little small even when set to "Larger" which is the largest setting available for the UI. I'd also like to be able to move parts of the interface around like you can do on WoW and Guild Wars 1 but perhaps they will add that at a later date.

So yeah, day one, one hour played and I'm very impressed. Much more than I was when I started playing Guild Wars 1 or World of Warcraft. This feels very polished and there is a lot of detail everywhere, and I don't mean just graphically.

Wanna know whats weird? A £50 in England is still $50 in the US. There is no conversion.

But it sounds awesome pri cant wait to try it myself. Ive heard the gameplay is seamless.

It's also weird how the Aussie dollar is higher than the American dollar.

Pri is it worth it? I wanted to try but I'll have to use a wrapper to play on Mac. This would require effort on my part. It looked pretty interesting.

It's a lot of fun, I played it for about 2 hours today and I'm really enjoying it. There is a lot to learn though as it pretty much throws all the conventional MMO stuff out the window and redoes it the way they think it should be and that definitely takes some getting used to but I'm enjoying the differences.
