Are you intending to do a dual display setup? If so go with the dual chips. If not the 680 is perfect.

Note: dual 580s > single 680 in terms of performance (usually)Db696 wrote:Are you intending to do a dual display setup? If so go with the dual chips. If not the 680 is perfect.

Re: building a computer! (finally)
GTX 690 has already released. It is $999 and is about 98% of the performance of two GTX 680's in SLI.
In my opinion do not get two GTX 580's instead buy either a GTX 680 (and later buy another one in a years time) or get a GTX 690.

Re: building a computer! (finally)
holy crap! just looked up the 690...maybe, just maybe, an extra 600$ would be worth it...
although @pri, the only one i found was for 1400USD, not 1000 (unfortunately)

Re: building a computer! (finally)
If I was you crazy I'd actually buy two GTX 670's they are so incredibly close in performance to a GTX 680 that there is now no point in buying a 680. Also two GTX 670's is identical in performance to a GTX 690 for significantly less money.
I may even buy two myself.
The reason I didn't mention the GTX 670 in my earlier post is because they only just came out today and I hadn't read any reviews until after I made my post. To give you an example of how close the GTX 670 and 680 are in performance, in Battlefield 3 (One of the latest games out I think you'd agree) they are within 3 frames per second of eachother.

Re: building a computer! (finally)
Yea, looked them up. For 800usd I can get the equivalent of a 690...sounds good to me!
Also, if they're so close, why the 200$ price difference?
Also, if you know, how many displays they can support (on only one card), and will there ever be more then a 2gig card? Cause that's all I could find...
