Alright so I'v been reading chat and seen a few questions about grief and I'v seen many different answers. So heres the question that I have seen alot," What is considered Griefing in RenMX?". So its kind of obvious what griefing is, its when one player destroys another players House, farm, chests, ect. Correct? Well, that doesnt always applie. For instance we have a towny system on the server that is made to PROTECT YOUR STUFF. So here is my question," If a players house is not protected by towny or anything else are we allowed to grief and take there stuff?". So thats my question to all the mods, admins and owner/owners. I'm sure i wont be the only one to benifeit from this. Enjoy

Re: Defining "Grief"
As my understanding of the rules, but I may be wrong that even though it is out of towny protection, (Now you must keep in mind towny is not only used to protect yourself but to have a functional community of people -town member's- working together to increase a certain type of gaming experience. You are not forced to create or join a town you are also allowed to build in the wild. Here is my thoughts on it. if a player is new to the server and instead of town hoping due to they are not sure of what town to join or if they like to create their own. They still have the server rule of "No Grief" the structure's they built. Now of course this don't apply to chests left unprotected. There are protections you can use in the wild for your door's, furnaces, chests. So to answer your question.
Is griefing allowed in the wild of other people's structure's? No.
example: you look into someone's window and see a unprotected chest but the door is locked. you break down a wall or dig under their house to get it, it's considered a grief.
Unprotected chest items free game? Yes.
Example: Unprotected chest left outside a structure or in the middle of no where, or inside a structure with access to without breaking anything. You may take the items.
Expired Deadbolt's:
If a once protected chest has expired or door then it is free game to raid the chest, but the structure still must not be griefed.
So pretty simple is you may take only from chests, you should never touch anyone else's buildings, farms, animals.

Re: Defining "Grief"
Off topic here: the panda girl... hella quiet btw love it
back to the topic at hand: I see were you coming from saying were if they are undecided about which town to join or wether they should make there own or not. I get that but, what about the deadbolts houses for deadbolts to activate they have to be offline for 30 days or roughly 3 months or so what about those houses? Are they free game sence the possiblility of them coming back to the server is very little. Also from what im understanding here it would be considering griefing if you broke your way through someones wall to raid there open chests?
Heres another thing, correct me if i am wrong, your saying i can go out build a huge beutiful base and just put a sign on the door and leave all the chests open and as long as the doors remain closed no one can steal from the chests right? Also if someone did break down a wall stole stuff how would you catch them if they just replaced the blocks they broke?
Another question: Would a chest be considered apart of the structure or no?
If not and your are able to legitly get inside a building with unprotected chests could you break the chests?
What happens to "Griefers" after they have been caught? Are they insta-banned?
or do you let them explain?
And if they are banned for griefing will they get a second chance?
What if you claim over another players land or a piece of there stuff with
and outpost or a town? Will you be forced to move it or will they
have to move? Or will there have to be some kind of agreement between the
two people?

Re: Defining "Grief"
As far as old deadbolts: you are right, if the person never comes back, you may never get caught.. unless some dudley do-right happens by, sees the mess and blows the whistle on you. It is always the best policy never to touch anything that looks like it was built by someone.
You sound like you're getting the gist of the rules. Yes, griefing through a wall to steal from chests is illegal. Yes it would be difficult to catch the griefer if the griefer (or shall we say, skilled thief) put the blocks back exactly as they found them. I think the moral of the story is: put signs on all your chests, period. I know I do... and they are also behind locked doors AND protected by towny.

Oh, and about the other questions you had regarding ban times, forgiveness, and player disputes... The moderators and admins handle all that stuff on a case-by-case basis.

Re: Defining "Grief"
I consider grief any time you place or destroy blocks in another persons build regardless of where that structure is (in a town or not) and regardless of how long the user has been offline.
The only thing we allow you to do which is lets say anti-social is to steal from unprotected chests. This means if they did not protect their chest by placing it in a town, placing a deadbolt protection sign on the chest or storing it inside a building which you cannot access unless you grief or glitch to get inside of that building.
If a deadbolt protection sign time ends on a chest you may take the contents of that chest. If a protection sign on a door ends you may not grief or take that structure but you may enter to look around for chests to steal items from.
I hope this clarifies our position if you have any follow-up questions please feel free to reply with those here
