Resources for a town

Tue Jun 18, 2013 12:47 pm

Hi, just wanted to post a bit in here.

Future plans:

Make a farm (as inspired by Hall) near the town market that will yield enough product to have players stocked and have plenty left to sell. I am considering the trade off's between automation and effectiveness (both space and yield wise).

I guess that if I wanted to get the most yield I would go for the space efficient one but there's also the fact of having a cool automated one.

Still in consideration, what do you guys think?

Well, I do know how to make a small automated farm. I'm sure expanding one wouldn't be too hard. Do dispensers dispense seeds? Because I could probably mess around with an auto farm like that.
The only difference between dicking around and science...
is writing it down.

Update:

Doing the math and here it is:

-Semi automatic farm takes 11 blocks wide and depending on how many levels I want it takes 7n in length, n being the layers I want. At an assumed number of 4 layers we are talking of a design of 11-15 blocks wide and 28-25 blocks long. Estimated yield of wheat is 3.5 stacks.
~Pros: It is semi automatic so a flip of a switch will send all the wheat / carrots / potatoes my way and all that is required is to replant saving on play time.
~Cons: It requires too much space length wise, needs a lot of red stone, yield is not so great.

-Manual farm takes around 9-13 blocks in an n*n matrix and the rest is just raising it but since block height would be regardless in this design it doesn't matter just the initial n. At an assumed number of 4 layers the estimated yield is 5 stacks.
~Pros: The yield is far greater at a 1.5 stack difference and it doesn't consume that much space so it can keep on escalating til you run out of roof room.
~Cons: It is MANUAL so even by water buckets one would have to go floor by floor gathering it all and then one would need to replant taking extra time from game play. Also a staircase would need to be built making it perhaps too consuming on materials (good looking ones not like dirt stairs or stuff like that).

I don't know about dispensers, I think they have to be planted manually but if you could check that for me while I get home and try it out I'd be grateful! :D

Think about how profits come out, if it pays for the redstone and the yields aren't like 5 pieces of wheat your fine.

In the long run, if I do sell it, profit will be more than enough to cover the cost. I want it to be efficient enough to be used freely to breed animals :)

My next plan is to move the cattle farm to the surface

UPDATE:

Definitely going for the automated model. Automating processes will be beneficial for a near future and it's just the hassle once. I'll have to make sure that it is effective but I did try it on creative and it seems to be quite effective with the exception of a tilled soil here and there.

Update:

Automatic model built and is at 3/4 or 75%. Just need to add 1 more module and that will be the soul sand. From what Ive read, nether wart does grow anywhere as long as it has soul sand. Might put this one on hold as I add a few more details around the town

Update:

The main 4 farms are completed, these are wheat, potatoes, carrots and soul sand. A side farm was built for pumpkins and melons. Third farm is being built right next to it with the intentions of housing cocoa beans. Ill see what I can do for cactus and sugar but so far this seems to be the biggest farm-oriented structure in Amaranthos. It's coming along nicely with a great push, help and motivation from Rick.

Thanks Rick for all your support!

Update:

Side farms are now completed with the big four in the middle. How to get to them? Go to the market in the big Square in Amaranthos, left to the parthenon. Then keep heading west though the market and down some stairs. You should find it, fairly easy.
