As you all know right now you are charged 5 Rickies to keep your items after death. What I am suggesting is we increase this cost to R100 to make death a bit more painful and expensive.
This would not affect your Backpacks you will still continue to keep your items that are in your backpack after death regardless of how many rickies you have. This would only affect your main inventory.

While the price does seem a bit steep I think it's an option to be considered since after all it is survival. However people who are used to the low price are bound to cry at first although I think that it would make people more conscious to be safe in the wilderness

A 10× increase to 50r would be good to start off on then take it from there maybe?

5R is already expensive for a new player and even for a mayor who upkeeps the town.
Sometimes when I join the server, I died for no reason and charged 5R. 100R maybe worse.
Whether it is 10R or 5R or 50R, that would be fine.

I think for now we'll keep it at 5R but in future I may raise it. Not to 100 but maybe R25.

Hmm yeah, but how far into the future, because there's a lot of new players coming in and perhaps it would be better sooner to end the whine of quasi-older players faster and they can get used to it. Probably (most if not all) of the new players coming in havent had a fall safe system that saves their items on death on a SMP server.
