The Guild Wars 2 Thread

Mon Mar 12, 2012 11:55 pm

This is the thread for talking about Guild Wars 2.

So, who is looking forward to it? I am. Each video they release makes me want to play it more and more.
I haven't played the original but I'm pretty sure I am gonna get this due it not being subscription based.

Who else has signed up for the beta?
What race do you want your first character to be?

We had better have a Renegades Guild ^^.

I'm not a fan of subscriptions either. I played WoW for a while but got bored of that. The subscription makes it annoying because I feel like if I don't play I don't get my moneys worth and I could only play it for like an hour or two each week. I've not even got a max level character and I'd been playing it for 2 years haha - I stopped in I think late 2009.

Now Guild Wars 2 is very attractive to me, not having a subscription means I can just play it whenever I want without feeling obligated to get my moneys worth out of it. I loved Guild Wars 1 I played it to death. I logged on the other day actually just to see what was going on and it was like a ghost town even in Ascalon City (one of the main hubs) there was no one around. Same at Droknars Forge and the Kusaks city. I think many of the players have either left or are waiting for Guild Wars 2.

I remember playing Guild Wars 1 during its hay-day when it was so full there were hundreds of people in each instanced city and it was soo much fun. I can't wait to have that experience again when the new game launches I can just tell it is going to be packed. I wouldn't be surprised if on day 1 there is almost 500K players online around the world.

When it comes out do you guys want to play together and level up together etc? - As soon as I reach high enough level to make guild I'll form a Renegades one and set everyone to staff within it?

Yeah, i'm up for that, sounds like fun. Gonna make sure I have enough money put to one side to grab the game as soon as it releases.

I also feel like if I pay a certain amount a month I am obligated to play the game as much as I can and probably end up finding it either boring or taking over my entire life and draining my wallet. A game where you only have to pay the initial cost of the game really appeals to me because I would still get my value for money if I only wanted to play 1 day a week for the next 2 years.

Some new videos of 3 major cities. I wasn't so sure about the "painterly" art direction at first but these cities look great.

They are huge. Much bigger than the original cities in the first game. In-fact I think if you took every city from the first game (not just the primary ones but all of them) and combined them together it still wouldn't be even half as big as that main human city.
