building a computer! (finally)

Tue Mar 06, 2012 1:02 am

k so i finally got fed up with having POS computers that can run any thing to save there lives. i looed at buying a gaming pc, but i quickly realized i dont have the kind of money to spend on them (nor do i want to spend that much on them; what i looked at wouldve been 4,000 USD).

I know that we have several computer-smart people on Ren, and i was wondering if i could get your help. what im looking for is a list of components (GPU, hard drives, mother boards, processors, etc.) that i will need to build this thing. ill have help actually assembling my pc (knowing a guy who works at a computer store FTW), but if anyone would like to help me out with a list of what ill need, it'd be greatly appreciated!

YEAH HEX CORE!! For the video card you really only NEED one, NVIDIA GeForce 580 if you has teh money or 550 if you don't has the money. A good 550 can be easily a couple hundred less than a 580 and I can run skyrim on high settings easily with my one 550

Or you do it the smart way and get a 7950, it's marginally cheaper and performs better than a 580. (Maxed out settings Minecraft = 300+FPS, Maxed out setting + GLSL shaders + 128x tex pack = 70FPS)
yea, as of now, ima go with the XFX 7970. but heres a question, i found one 7970, just normal whatev, then i found one that looks like it has dual fans on it. any major difference in performance?
