$2,000 max .......

For that you can get
i7-3770K or wait until Ivy Bridge E and get 6 core
GTX 670-690 w/e you like
Good Motherboard
You can use Corsair liquid cooling kits or air cool
Good case

I barely know anything about the latest computer parts (perhaps I shouldn't write this post anyway because of that), but some googling told me that these would be good:
  • Processor: Intel i7 3770K
  • Graphics card: Gigabyte GV-N670OC-2GD GeForce GTX 670 2GB (when overclocked, performs almost as good as an overclocked 680! If you're willing to spend half your budget on a GPU, I guess you can grab a 690...)
  • Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V PRO
  • RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws Z DDR3 PC17000/2133MHz CL9 4x4GB
  • Case: Fractal Design Define R4
  • PSU: OCZ ZT Series 750W
  • CPU cooler: Noctua NH-D14 (assuming you're gonna overclock your CPU)
  • SSD: Intel 330 240GB (get two and RAID them for ultra performance!)
That would cost $1300 if you're going for the 670 + no SSDs + no case. Add $600 if you want a 690, $200 for each SSD, and $100 for the case.

You should take a closer look at these yourself because, once again, I barely know anything about the latest computer parts and I used Google to build this list.
Yes, this was a completely unnecessary post. Deal with it.

Hell, a intel i7 2600k is pretty cheap and it delivers wonderful performance.
