Project Supremecy [First Build] [Noob Here]

Fri Jul 27, 2012 2:18 am

So, for 2 years i have wanted to build my own PC. Pretty much had no idea what i was doing, and now i have somewhat of an idea.

List

Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0$99.99

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD5 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard $189.99

AMD FX-4170 Zambezi 4.2GHz (4.3GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 125W Quad-Core Desktop Processor FD4170FRGUBOX $139.99

GeIL EVO Veloce Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model GEV332GB1600C10QC $199.99

Corsair Nova Series 2 CSSD-V30GB2A 2.5" 30GB SATA II Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) $59.99

Total So Far : $669.95

Is there anything else i would need, I think i need a Power Supply, and A Graphics card, although not sure what i need.

I have about $550 in cash right now, and im selling 5 modded xbox's at about $180-200 each. So Max limit would be like 800-1000

Yeah you need a power supply and a graphics card. If you intend to install the OS via USB key (I've written a guide on here for that) then you won't need an optical drive.

Looks to be a nice system but why not Intel? More performance on the 1155 socket and around the same prices too.

I want a total cost of around 700-800$ [USD], im not sure what to decide on 1866Mhz 16GB Ram with watercooling and CPU overclocked, or Just 32gb 1866Mhz Ram no overclocking. I dont know why i would ever even need 32gb Ram, so i just though of 24gb Ram, how would i do that? 1866Mhz 16GB Ram[8 x 2] AND 1866Mhz 8GB Ram [4 x 2]. I was just talking to Pri, and i would like to host a Armagetron Advanced server :P

So ive decided to go with 24gb RAM[still no idea why i would need it, i like ram :P]. Im getting 16gb 1866Mhz Ram[8x2], and an individual one of those. So that makes 24gb of ram. I've also found my case and Power Supply on Amazon for 10-20$ cheaper. :P

Some guy wants to buy one of my xbox's today so i have can buy the motherboard, RAM, proccessor.

Because that is a Dual-Channel board I would urge you to go with either 4 sticks or 2 sticks. Using 3 is not recommended and will half your RAM bandwidth effectively.

Only X58 and X79 support Tri-Channel. In-fact X79 supports Single, Dual, Tri and Quad. 1155 aka Z77 only supports Single and Dual which means if you stick 3 sticks in, you'll be bumped down to Single channel mode.

okay, well i was just gonna say i chose an i7 proccessor, but since you said that, im gonna bump back down to i5. I guess i ll do 32gb of ram because i dont want 16gb since thats what my laptop has. Or i could do both, and it would take me longer to build -_-

Why would you need that much RAM?
