Okay so we recently installed the mod Tekkit. Added a new server, copied the SMP Map to the tekkit server. Some plugins work some do not. Tekkit seems like a very nice mod to use. very complex, interesting blocks, including 500 new blocks to use. i think tekkit is a cool idea. but from what i see tekkit will be the SMP killer of the servers we host.

1. Since Tekkit was installed, the SMP map was copied over to this new server. this gives users from the start an advantage. keeping all the items they had from SMP. They are able to build, make what ever there is to make in Tekkit. instead of starting fresh.

2. The reason why i think tekkit should have been started fresh is because now, people from SMP server will flock over to tekkit and build there instead of building in SMP. Because they will get money faster, everything faster. and SMP will no longer grow due to the popularity of Tekkit.

3. Example - Rick said to me hey i got millions lets build ibex from Tekkit. "not his exact words" but you get what i mean. so think about it this way SMP will no longer grow, because Tekkit will take over since everything is the same as smp.

4. SMP will end up not growing, users will get bored. and current users who have towns, nations etc who on tekkit will no longer maintain or do any work/ progress.

5. I think the tekkit server should be wiped and start fresh just like any other server we have. like the new survival we did few months ago. you start fresh and look how everything started. "to me it feels like a way to shift SMP to Tekkit and forget about SMP since no one is gonna build anyway now with a copy of SMP on Tekkit. so the only server that will grow now will be tekkit.

6. SMP server will end up with no progress to it. no development. its gonna die off.
^^ because you dont have to start fresh. why Copy of SMP to Tekkit

why build on SMP anymore when we have it on tekkit.


Please do not get mad at me. this is not a bashing post. this is how i really feel about the current situation. So please post respectful posts on this subject

I had almost the exact same thought about this, a fresh start would be a whole lot better for the Tekkit server.

I agree, SMP is so dead now and no one obviously wants to switch over again because Tekkit has grown so much

It hasn't even been open 12 hours yet. It hasn't grown one bit.

Everyone is playing Tekkit because it's new. If it kills survival then so be it. I won't be wiping the Tekkit map.

We had a lot of players when we launched the new SMP server for the same reason - because it was new. Give a few weeks and I think it will balance out

I do have to agree in making a new Tekkit map. Me and jedi had to set up camp at the far edge of the maps just to get any new resources at all (Oil is life!)

Agreed.
I love the fact that i can play on the servers on any laptop/computer without having to do anything but have minecraft.
I doubt ill bother with Tekkit given the little i play on SMP anyway.
