This has been hapeneing quite frequently, i have been traveling to help someone and ill be standing right next to them and they'll ask how far am i and i say in front of so, i always have to put a block down. Is there a way to fix this or is it my character?

This is a known issue with the Server/Client and something Notch will need to address in a future update to the game.
