When situations like this happen always use /report in-game. Do not direct players to honeypots and tell them to break blocks to get banned.
If staff are on IRC they see reports, it pings me if I'm around, when staff login they also receive notifications about current reports. So if you use /report it will get dealt with. As you've been honest about what you did you will not be punished but don't do this again.
