So, for some reason, my user (thebuccaneersden) has been banned from the Survival RenMX server.
The specific message is:
"griefing alphasquazx's soulsand barrier outside markarth"
Which is puzzling, since I have no recollection of being near markarth on the map in quite some time and I definitely don't recall griefing anyone's soulsand barrier, which I'm not even sure what that means.
Is there evidence of this? Otherwise, I'd would like to dispute this ban. And, if I did somehow do what alphasquazx claims I did, then I'm obviously not clear about the rules, because I was under the impression that so long as someone hasn't made it clear that something belongs to them (ie. sign, chest, town), then you are free to collect whatever you find - and I abide by those rules always.
Many thanks in advance.

Re: Ban Appeal for thebuccaneersden
You might want to read the rules more carefully. It says you may take from chests or containers which are unclaimed, but you are never allowed to destroy blocks that belong to other players unless you have received explicit admin permission to take over the build.
You wouldn't have been banned unless there was clear evidence via log block.

Re: Ban Appeal for thebuccaneersden
I don't believe I've ever taken soulsand from anyones build (town or in the wild). I once found a bunch of soulsand in the middle of the jungle by a river - not as part of any building, so I assumed someone laid it down instead of soil by accident. I want to emphasize that this was in the middle of nowhere (can even point to it on the map) and the closest builds were far far away.
So, does that rule still apply? Because, if so, how is finding soulsand in the wild any different than sand, soil or wood? Someone may have at some point laid it there and thus get me banned? Just wondering.
Cheers

Re: Ban Appeal for thebuccaneersden
I received a complaint about this. It is actually part of a build that is hidden up in the vines. AlphaSquadZX informed me that the soulsand is there to slow down approaching enemies. Next time you see soulsand in the overworld, assume that taking it is griefing. AlphaSquadZX has already replaced the soulsand. You have been unbanned.

@Daigle: Well, I'm happy to return the soulsand if Alpha wants. Thanks for the unbanning
Never thought that was the case. Just thought someone accidentally laid it there instead of soil.SJL1999 wrote:And also the whole you thought the soulsand was there naturally, Im yet to ever see it spawn in the over world.

Heh, that still counts as griefing though mate. Just leave it next time, better to be on the safe side.

But, if that's the rules of this server, then I will follow them.
Re: Ban Appeal for thebuccaneersden
I'm not sure why, since people have the choice to protect their assets - ie. claim land and lock chests. Finders keepers right? Otherwise, what's the point of claiming land and having a plugin that counts how many days something has been abandoned for before releasing it?NorwegianCraft wrote:Heh, that still counts as griefing though mate. Re: Ban Appeal for thebuccaneersden
People get griefed all the time. I don't think a day goes by where something on our server isn't griefed. But by giving players the tools to protect their own land it stops their areas from being griefed. That doesn't mean that stealing and griefing unprotected areas is okay, it just means we have given players an avenue to protect their land instead of needing to wait for us to always come and fix things after they happened.
It is a preventive measure they can choose to use or not. To put it in real world terms. We have police and we have locks on our doors but that doesn't mean it's okay for people to steal your stuff if they physically can. It's an inconvenience to call the police when you get robbed and it's inconvenient to call on staff when you get griefed.
I understand how this can be confusing but we aren't a raiding server we are a building server we want players to build things and towns are optional. The reason we have towns that disappear when you don't pay the taxes is often times players leave and if they do that their large towns take up a lot of space (There is about 200 active towns right now) by having the town system it completely reverts their town in the event that it runs out of money freeing up that land for new players to settle on. So basically if you're willing to risk your town disappearing if you leave the server / run out of money then you can get a 100% protected zone to build in. But if you don't want to do that you can be subject to griefing which requires you to contact a staff member to help after the fact, which is inconvenient and time consuming.
The rules on our server are always in flux though and we are always considering changes that offer greater benefit to our players. I believe next year some major changes will be coming to the way "wild" (non-town) areas are managed and how PVP and raiding is handled also.
