Redstone torch fault/bug

Ive come across a problem in creative that im pretty worried about.
I made a counter, where when you push a button in activates a line of current. When you push it again, it activates the next one, and carries on in that fashion.
The main line of redstone runs the entire length of the circuit.
Once i activated the the main line, i found that certain specific blocks (ill call them dead points), when power is given to a redstone torch, the torch will turn off.
But when the power is removed, it does not turn back on.
Now this isnt due to faulty wiring.
I have placed a single floating block in one of these "dead points" with a single torch on top, and a single button.
The button will, as per usual, turn the torch off, but once the button releases, the torch remains off. And will not turn back on unless i destroy and replace it.
It is the block which holds the torch that is the dead point, not the block suspending it. I have tested it by placing a block beside the dead point, and hung a torch in the dead point on the side of the block, and the same result is found.
Im not sure why it is happening, or what to do about it.
