SSD Ahoy

Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:55 am

Ok lads, just thought I'd update you on the Disk situation.

Today I ordered two 32GB SSD's (There actually 40GB but there is some loss during formatting etc) I'm going to be putting them in RAID0 for 64GB of storage total and I'm going to be putting our Minecraft servers on those. At the moment our three Minecraft servers combined are about 7GB of data. Almost nothing and most of that is log files so I think 64GB will be more than enough.

Hopefully the SSD's will be here by Wednesday and then I will fit them. I don't expect there to be any extended downtime, probably just an hour or so while I copy the files from our Disk Array to the SSD Array. In any event I'll let you know ahead of time what is happening and try to get Creative up first then the other two servers shortly after.

Thanks ;)

p.s. the reason I'm doing this is to greatly increase server performance. Warping, logging in, generating new areas will all benefit from the SSD's and things should scale better meaning as more players log on (20, 30, 40 etc) the server should continue to run smoothly with a lag free experience for everyone.

The SSD upgrade is now complete. And wow what a difference. WorldEdit and VoxelSniper are instantaneous now even with huge edits and massive brush sizes.

Everything feels a lot faster. All three servers are back online :)
