Making Glass

Some really pretty things can be made in minecraft with glass, and stained glass. I suggest a custom recipe be added for it to allow us to be able to make it without mining and smelting every single block of sand.
A custom recipe that uses glass bottles: Four bottles in a square making one glass block.
Reasonable, since three glass bottles are normally crafted from three blocks of glass.
I want to build giant statues out of colored glass, so this would be very helpful if it were possible. ^_^
