Some statistics

I thought it'd be interesting to share some information about our server now that I have this new router it can give me some very specific breakdowns of our traffic use and I'm actually surprised to learn some of this myself.
I never really thought hosting a Minecraft server would use a lot of bandwidth but according to the statistics it uses about 13.3GB of upload per day to host our server. And that does not include the websites or the dynmaps just the game server itself.
It also estimates it uses about 470MB of upload per player over a 24 hour day. Meaning if you stayed connected to the server for exactly 24 hours you would use on average 470MB of data to stay connected.
This means in just a single month the server uses on average 399GB to 412GB of upload. (30-31 day month). That's incredible.
You may remember last year I moved the images for our websites from the same server I host our Minecraft on to a separate dedicated server in the united states. That saves us 51GB a month in upload.
Our websites that we host currently cost us 42 GB a month in upload. That's the Dynmaps, Shop, Auctions, Cards, Admin control panel etc - I expected it to be larger but in comparison to the Minecraft data it's quite small.
So I hope you enjoyed this look. I'm sure many of you in the United States that have data caps at home are probably thinking home hosting is out of the question now. Thankfully my ISP doesn't have any data caps.
