Sounds ok by me, much like you stated it might be redundant but it's easier than having someone to argue about them being killed or not.
See usually I say that the wilderness is free game however I believe this compensates for the map option. Since we do have a map that can let us see where players are then it's a bit unfair to new players.
Unless, and Im throwing this as a suggestion, what if the map (map.renmx.com) didn't have the "view player" option, at least for the map in survival? Wouldn't that even it out and we wouldn't need the toggle option? Not to mention it would level out the whole pvp since you would actually need to find the player.
This does make mining and building in the wilderness easier. At the same time its taking away a thrill element which was fun. People will be less likely to join or start towns now since they are all effectively immune to PvP. People will be less likely to strive for good armor & weapons since they only need to hit a zombie or a spider every now and then. Towns are becoming less and less relevant with each new policy change. I think this is a bigger deal than it looks like at the surface. I used to love the PvP element, but now I have no motivation to pursue it; which may be the main reason for this change. I guess we can all focus on building now.
I understand. But you know, some people just really don't wanna PVP. We aren't really a PVP server, I don't advertise us as a PVP server either. We are a Towny/Survival server first. Building together is important to us, PVP not so much.
I will incentivise people to have PVP enabled through perks and things, don't worry I will think of something
