Some server problems

Today one of the disks in one of the arrays on the server (8x2TB in RAID5) has died. This is where I store some files. Now I've ordered 5 x 4TB Drives to replace that failed array and they are coming tomorrow (£750 ouch) and I do not expect there to be any downtime when I install these as they simply slot right in to the server but I cannot be certain of that, there may be some downtime.

So I'm just making you aware. This doesn't affect our Minecraft stuff as they use different sets of disks. (3x1TB in RAID5, 4x1TB in RAID5, Samsung 128GB SSD and a single 1TB for Minecraft) so these disks are away from that whole issue.

Right now there is no data loss due to the RAID5. I want to keep it that way and get my data off that array as soon as possible on to the new array. These disks are almost three years old 24.7 use and it's no wonder they are about to perish. I'll be using them as backup disks for non-essential data after I decommission them tomorrow.

The upgrade to the new disks has begun. I have had to erase our Dynmap Tiles as those were stored on a backup array (as its name implies, used for backups) which I have had to reconstruct today which meant all its data was lost in the process. The Dynmap Tiles are very small there's millions of them and they are all about 0.1 to 0.5KB in size. I decided due to the 2-3 hours it would take to move them that I would just erase the array and the tiles with it.

All this means is our maps at http://map.renmx.com will be mostly blank until I perform a map render. However around the areas players are building the map will render itself.

If there is anything else that comes up I will keep you all appraised.
