A quick question

Fri Aug 02, 2013 6:40 am

Hey guys, so I was wondering... I have sort of a large project in my head right now, and in order for something like this to work, I need mobs. (Creative server of course) I was just wondering what all you guys know about de-spawning rates. The whole time I've been on the server, or Minecraft rather, I didn't really deal with it in my builds. But now, I want to incorporate an, "alive", feeling in my build, so to speak. If I were to spawn a few mobs in, how long would they stay there? Would they stay there forever possibly? Like, if I were to log off, or no one was in the area for it to load, would they still be there when I come back, like horses?.

I also have another idea that might be able to be cleared through Pri and the rest of the staff. I understand that on the creative server, spawn eggs are off limits for everyone below the rank of moderator, which include architects ,like myself, to stop players from spawning in mass quantities and spamming them in inappropriate times. Here's my idea on it though. Is it so much to ask that particular members of the server who are architects, such as myself, would be able to gain the ability of spawning mobs in whenever? Now, I know this requires a great deal of responsibility over the issues I just covered, but my reasoning is simple in this case. If the mobs were to stay where they were, then I would definitely use them for the sole purpose that not only are the structures and blocks I place a form of my art and expression, but the way I utilize a mob in my build to make it have flare and intricacy would also be an art form would it not? This is only a suggestion that currently benefits me though, but if this starts to trend, where people use not only blocks, but mobs as well to create amazing pieces of architectural genius, wouldn't you like them to have everything at their disposal to do so? Like I said though, this is solely up to Pri and the staff, but others who think my idea is worth wild, then please, show your support.

On an off-topic note, I know I have been away for long periods at a time, but I check in every now and then. This community has really grown since I joined in 2010. It's astonishing how far they have come and to see some good friends running this server along with Pri just makes me feel honored to be on this server. After that statement, I would like to inform this whole community of my return, and a promise to you all that I plan on becoming more active in the server, and on this forum.

Thanks for taking the time to read all of this, and I hope to receive some nice feedback on ideas discussed prior. Thank you for your time,

Sincerely, ~T_Balla

I believe that named mobs shouldn't despawn as of 1.6 but mobs still do despawn from time to time so we cannot guarantee that they wont despawn but you should be fine. I feel mob eggs could be allowed on the creative server these days though considering it is an exclusive server to ranked players and not a free for all.

It's fantastic news that you are returning, I hope to see you more often in the near future. Welcome Back!

(please excuse the technical issues we had overnight and this morning)

I would like to make the suggestion that you first lay down your structure and then add the mobs later on if what you are looking for is basically building something that looks natural. If what you are trying to do is have mobs spawn around you while you are building then that defeats the whole purpose of creative IMO.

Again, I am just saying this because I want to know which is exactly what you want: the natural feeling of building while mobs may spawn around you (which is survival) or adding them eventually around your build to make it look natural (which would be for taking pictures and such).

Okay, so I'll see if they stay around when I name them, thanks! Yeah, I tried to get on last night, disappointed that I couldn't, but I'm glad it's back up.

No no no, I was referring to it as mobs being more of a focus in the build, not having companions as I build all alone in creative. :P I thought my idea was clear that I would implement them into my build. The only reason I posed the issue was that architects couldn't access it and I just gave my opinion is all. It's cool though, just clarifying.

Okay so, I didn't get an answer, so I'll just go straight to the punch rather than explain myself. Would it be all right if I, and other architects, had the permission to use spawn eggs in creative?

I think that something can be worked out here. For example you can ask SKy about mobs in creative he has used them quite effectively :)
