PSA about name changing

You will lose everything because everything is associated with your username. It would be like you bought a new account and entered the server with nothing.

I kinda know some information on this. Your stuff shouldn't be lost because Mojang are planning to add player IDs. This will give everyone a special ID that everything should be saved to. They are planning to add the IDs in 1.7.6 and 1.8. The player.dat files should be automatically changed to the ID, not the username to counteract server side problems.

The problem is nuclear, none of the software uses that system. Not our permissions, not your ranks, not your towns, not our shop stuff, not your wallet.

Every single plugin has been to this point designed to use your name. Finding converters for everything, rewriting every plugin we use that has any kind of database, rewriting logblock, core protect, all our own special software.

It's going to be a monumental undertaking. The UUID's which I was already aware of when I made this topic only really affects mojangs own server software and its only real functionality is banning. Everything else will break.

Would cards have a way of being replaced, or would those be lost as well? Are they tied to the IP, instead?

what if someone changes their name but then releases that they like their old name better, would the get their stuff back?

jebus Christ how many times is Minecraft gonna allow people to change their names? Please tell me there is at least a fee
