Re: Tekkit Talk/Debate
I agree, the new tekkit server is essentially like creative, cause all these people make these machines to get them heaps of rickies, which essentially means whatever they want. It really kind of takes away the legit feel of survival knowing you didn't have to do any work for those blocks. In my opinion, wipe the map fresh, and make things A LOT more expensive in the shop, or have no shop at all. This would make the tekkit server a lot more SMP-esque and players might even come back to the SMP, to continue their towns/cities.

Re: Tekkit Talk/Debate
The shop is useless to Tekkit users because all the materials they need have to be mined. None of the Tekkit materials are sold at the admin shop. And all the normal blocks they can quickly acquire using Tekkit (but only after mining for the Tekkit parts and learning how to craft the pieces, which is not easy Tekkit is very complicated)
There will be no map wipe.

Re: Tekkit Talk/Debate
For a whole multitude of reasons. Something you guys need to keep in mind is as a operator of the server I see things from a different perspective. When you launch a new server you need to establish a spawn area that is capable, one that informs the users of rules, one that is protected against griefing. You also need to configure any number of plugins (In our case about 50).
Creating a new spawn area which would be as good as what we have on Survival would take the better part of a month.
Simply deleting the world files and using the same plugins/configs wouldn't work because each plugin stores data about the world. In-fact Towny, iConomy, WorldGuard, WorldEdit, DynMap, Lockette, Logblock, ChestShop, Spoutcraft Chunk Caches, Player Inventories, Players Homes & Warps all store data about the world. And if I don't go through and erase all those databases and modify all the configs to support a new world there will be very strange behavior. It would be a lot of work for me to launch a Tekkit server if I had to do all that versus merely copying Survival and using that as a base with all its established databases.
Both of these things enabled me to launch a Tekkit server in just two days vs 1 month or longer.
And finally, I wanted to give players the opportunity to continue their survival adventure in Tekkit instead of playing their original towns and cities in our Survival server. I didn't want people to feel that they would be abandoning their town if they played in Tekkit because that could result in players deciding not to try our Tekkit server at all. Doing it this way allows players to take their current achievements from our Survival server and continue to build on those in our Tekkit server whilst allowing new players and even old players to abandon their towns and go to the newly generated chunks around the edge of the border to experience a fresh start. It pleases both sides.
So with all these things combined I hope you can see this from my perspective.
A lot of people have said to me in the IRC they don't think it is fair that the Tekkit players get to keep their towns in Tekkit and that it will kill our Survival server because they won't play there anymore. And well this is why we have IRC linked chats. You can choose to play Creative, Survival or Tekkit and chat with your friends. You can play on Tekkit and only use Vanilla blocks, you can play on Survival and just use Vanilla blocks. What I think would be unfair is making people choose wether to abandon their Survival builds to play in Tekkit or forgo playing Tekkit to keep their Survival builds. Building in a survival server (be it Vanilla or Tekkit) takes a big time investment and I doubt players would split their time between both servers if we were to wipe Tekkit. What I think would happen is people who would play Tekkit anyway would do so and the Survival players who don't like Tekkit would still be pissed about Survival losing those players.
I'm just trying to provide a diverse sandbox for all players to enjoy. It is up to you where you play and who with, you can't control what other people do and where they choose to play.

Re: Tekkit Talk/Debate
You just showed us why you are the server owner and we are the players
Your arguments are good and I understand why you dont want a server wipe, honestly I thought it would be just as easy as when you make a new world in singleplayer.
I´m very impressed with the fact that you expanded the border instead of doing nothing and ruining the enjoyment of tekkit
Nice move there

Re: Tekkit Talk/Debate
Ok cause i was thinking of building up an oil empire and it dosent spawn a lot. And comparied to the survival map thats a lot of space where we cant get tekkit ores and such. I understand that it would be more work to wipe the map, but i like the way a new map gives a lot of building possibilities cause there is so much land that we cant use for tekkit because of the map copy. I see how the map copy gives advantages by letting you use tekkit items in ur builds. But i hate how u have to go so far from the spawn. I think it gives new people a problem because in order to get to the tekkit landscape they have to teleport to a town near the border for 10R when they only have 30 to start with, maybe you add some sort of teleporter to take new players to the beginning of the tekkit world. Also some of the tekkit blocks seem to be like some of the original blocks like you could sell marble in blocks like you sell stonebricks. And same with the basalt cobblestone you could price it at the regular cobble price. I know you stressed that u dont know where to start on naming prices for blocks but u could price some of the blocks because they are like some of the original ones. Those are some ideas i had floating around. I would have spaced the paragraphs but im on my tablet so its harder to do. -Sorry
