The problem with GPU's is that to keep it cheap you need to sacrifice quite a lot of quality. I took the liberty of finding one that I know to be quite reliable http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130501
but its as much quality as you can get for $54. If I were you I would start saving up for a GTX 460 or something and get the most out of your dollar.

I would say to save up for at least an HD 5770 or something around the $100 mark. Or a HD 6770 for £100 in the UK. I think the 5770 is being discontinued on most UK sites I look at now.

Even if your current GPU is crap its probably not even worth upgrading for $50/£50/50 whatevers.

If his GPU is DirectX 9 or something it might be worth upgrading to a DirectX 10/11 GPU, even if it's one of those crap low-profile cards.
