Old Parts PC

Hey, I had a few old parts laying around and trying to make a crappy backup PC for when my 5 year old beast burns out. But I'm having an issue with the sound...there isn't any.

I'm using an MSI MS-7050 Motherboard :

I've put an AMD 4000 processor on it...with an Intel cooler held on by 1 screw and a plastic tie up. It also has 2 X 512mb(1 GB) of DDR1 RAM and a huge 250GB HDD. Also a DVD drive. And an OEM graphics card that I can't remember. I think it's a GT 530.

I put it all into a cheap case with a 370watt PSU and it's working OK apart from the sound. The case had leads that were labeled as "HD Sound" and fit perfectly into the slot on the motherboard so I assumed this would be correct. But it doesn't give me any sound. I've tried different drivers but it doesn't seem to make a difference.

Before installing the drivers Windows XP flashes up a warning about the sound, after installing drivers I can play songs in the media player just without sound. HD Video is a little bit jumpy too.

I also have a problem with the RAM. I have an extra 2 X 512mb's but when I put them in it says the current configuration isn't supported.

Does anyone know of a possible things to try for the sound or the RAM? Or does anyone think I should just buy a cheap motherboard off Ebay to replace this cursed thing? Could it be the cheap case I bought from amazon?

It was about £15...
